The Antonian Prep Apaches will take on the St. John XXIII Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Antonian Prep will be looking to extend their current 16-game winning streak.
Antonian Prep's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed last Wednesday. They blew past Savio 15-0. The Apaches might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 18 matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Antonian Prep let Isabella Garza and Rylee De La Garza run wild. Garza went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base, while De La Garza got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most doubles Garza has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Bella Vasquez, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Antonian Prep hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least three batters in 12 consecutive games.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for St. John XXIII, who bounced back after a loss on the road two weeks ago. They put the hurt on Incarnate Word Academy with a sharp 13-3 victory on Tuesday. The win was some much needed relief for the Lions as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Alexa Ramirez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI.
In other batting news, Ella Delaune was incredible, going 4-for-5 with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Emma Morrison was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
Antonian Prep pushed their record up to 23-7 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for St. John XXIII, the victory got them back to even at 6-6.
Antonian Prep suffered a grim 14-2 defeat to St. John XXIII in their previous meeting back in May of 2018. Will the Apaches have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
