The McMahon Senators were the 62-51 winner over the Staples Wreckers when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. McMahon received a tough blow on Friday as they fell 67-52 to Staples. While losing is never fun, McMahon can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut basketball rankings (they are ranked 117th, while Staples is ranked 11th).
Sam Clachko continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Staples, scoring 26 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Tobias, who scored 15 points along with four steals.
This is the second loss in a row for McMahon and nudges their season record down to 2-5. As for Staples, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. McMahon will take on Trumbull at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Trumbull's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. As for Staples, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against St. Bernard at 7:00 p.m. St. Bernard will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
