Winning is just a little bit easier when you nail five more threes than your opponent, a fact the Cocoa Beach Minutemen proved on Friday. They put the hurt on St. Edward's with a sharp 61-40 win. That 61-40 margin sets a new team best for Cocoa Beach this season.
Jay Matthews continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 21 points and 14 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of Cocoa Beach's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Max Louis, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and four blocks.
Despite the loss, St. Edward's still got an impressive performance from Nate Sparkman, who scored ten points. The matchup was Sparkman's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jayzere Cannon, who scored seven points.
The win got Cocoa Beach back to even at 2-2. As for St. Edward's, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-3.
Cocoa Beach will stay at home for another game and welcome Merritt Island at 7:00 p.m. on December 5th. Hopefully Merritt Island focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Monday. As for St. Edward's, they will head out on the road to face off against Pine at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
