Knott County Central and Breathitt County are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2015, but not for long. The Knott County Central Patriots will head out on the road to square off against the Breathitt County Bobcats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
After a string of five wins, Knott County Central's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They took a 61-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of Martin County.
Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Breathitt County ultimately got the result they hoped for last Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Powell County and snuck past 80-77. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Breathitt County has posted since December 19, 2023.
Breathitt County got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Austin Sperry out in front who scored 19 points along with eight assists and eight rebounds. Sperry has been hot recently, having posted 19 or more points the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Canaan Gross, who scored 18 points.
Knott County Central's loss ended a seven-game streak of away wins and brought them to 18-5. As for Breathitt County, their victory bumped their record up to 13-8.
Knott County Central might still be hurting after the 66-46 loss they got from Breathitt County in their previous matchup back in March of 2023. Thankfully for Knott County Central, Christian Collins (who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
