Twin Falls is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Wood River is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. Twin Falls will square off against Wood River at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Twin Falls had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the nine-run drubbing they dealt Capital on Saturday. Twin Falls put the hurt on Capital with a sharp 14-5 victory. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since March 31, 2017, but that streak is no more.
Treyson Walker made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cooper Thompson, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Maddox Stadelmeir, who went 3-for-5 with one double and one RBI.
Twin Falls kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive contests.
While Wood River didn't have the best season last year (they finished 11-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against Filer last Thursday as Wood River made off with a 12-4 win. The victory continues a trend for the Wolverines in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won four in a row.
Like Twin Falls, Wood River also got a great game from a two-way player: Drake Orr. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 4.2 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Orr has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Carter Thompson was excellent, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and two RBI. Caleb Kurtz was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Twin Falls' win bumped their record up to 7-5. As for Wood River, their victory bumped their record up to 4-1.
Twin Falls took their win against Wood River in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 11-0. Will Twin Falls repeat their success, or does Wood River has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
