The Soquel Knights will be playing at home against the Monterey Dores at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Soquel sitting on six straight wins and Monterey on four.
Last Friday, Soquel's game was all tied up 14-14 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. Everything went their way against Carmel as Soquel made off with a 35-14 win.
Tyreis Lundy was a one-man wrecking crew for Soquel as he rushed for 201 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries. Lundy's longest rush was for an incredible 98 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Mccord, who picked up 70 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Monterey didn't have too much trouble with Sacred Heart Prep on the road on Saturday as they won 38-24.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Monterey to victory, but perhaps none more so than Enobong Wirth, who rushed for 119 yards and three touchdowns. Wirth has been hot recently, having posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last three times he's played. Preston White was another key contributor, throwing for 328 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 12.1 yards per attempt.
Soquel has yet to lose a matchup at home this season, leaving them with a 9-2 record. It's not like the team was facing easy opposition over that stretch either, as it included 8-3 Monterey (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 64.5% over those games). As for Monterey, their victory bumped their record up to 8-3.
Soquel strolled past Monterey in their previous meeting back in September by a score of 21-7. Will Soquel repeat their success, or does Monterey have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
