The Pocono Mountain East Cardinals will head out to challenge the Pleasant Valley Bears at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Pocono Mountain East is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.
Pocono Mountain East is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Stroudsburg just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Mountaineers by a score of 9-7.
Rocco DelGiudice put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Justin Williams was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Vincent Gambino, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one RBI.
Pleasant Valley came out on top against East Stroudsburg North on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run first inning. The Bears walked away with a 7-3 win over the Timberwolves. That looming 7-3 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Bears yet this season.
Sam Smale spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on five hits.
At the plate, Jacob George was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Braydon Green was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Pocono Mountain East's defeat dropped their record down to 10-5. As for Pleasant Valley, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-10.
Pleasant Valley's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Pocono Mountain East has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .444. It's a different story for Pleasant Valley, though, as they've only averaged .298. Will they be able to contain Pocono Mountain East's hitters?
Pocono Mountain East skirted past Pleasant Valley 10-9 when the teams last played back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cardinals since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
