The Oxbridge Academy ThunderWolves will venture away from home to square off against the Palm Beach Central Broncos at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Oxbridge Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.
Oxbridge Academy had been on a three-game streak of scoring at least ten runs, but Archbishop McCarthy put an end to it on Wednesday. The ThunderWolves lost 11-2 to the Mavericks. The ThunderWolves' defeat signaled the end of their eight-game winning streak.
Oxbridge Academy saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ella Bianco, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Palm Beach Central entered their tilt with Lake Worth on Tuesday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Trojans a 15-0 shutout. That's two games straight that the Broncos have won by exactly 15 runs.
Kiah Haston made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.
In other batting news, Alexia Sullo was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one double. That triple was her first of the season. Sara Spidalieri was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Palm Beach Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .655. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .558 or higher in four consecutive matchups.
Palm Beach Central's record is now 10-4. As for Oxbridge Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 13-5.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Oxbridge Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .346. However, it's not like Palm Beach Central struggles in that department as they've averaged .352. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
