The Hayden Wildcats will head out to challenge the Mission Valley Vikings at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Wednesday, Hayden got the win against Emporia by a conclusive 11-3. The victory continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won four in a row.
Olivia Kennedy spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on two hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, Karie Mead was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Kennedy Compton, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Hayden hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Emporia struck out seven times.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mission Valley). They put the hurt on Lyndon with a sharp 18-2 win on Thursday. Considering the Vikings have won four matchups by more than eight runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Keely Chesmore made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Chesmore was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and five RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.
In other batting news, Mission Valley got a massive performance out of Kailynn Jacobson, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Kaitlyn Coursen was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
The victory made it two in a row for Mission Valley and bumps their season record up to 4-2. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.0 runs over those games. As for Hayden, their record is now 2-0.
