The Bishop Watterson Eagles will square off against the Bishop Hartley Hawks at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Bishop Watterson is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They put the hurt on Jonathan Alder with a sharp 10-3 victory.
Kaitlyn Scholl spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on three hits.
At the plate, Alexa Ray was incredible, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Clare Feehan, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Bishop Hartley made easy work of Bexley on Monday and carried off a 21-3 win. Considering the Hawks have won ten games by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Jasmine Wooten was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Morgan Bailey was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and four RBI. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. Ellie Thomas was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI.
Bishop Hartley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in five consecutive contests.
Bishop Hartley pushed their record up to 16-5 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Bishop Watterson, their record now sits at 8-16.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Bishop Watterson has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Bishop Hartley struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Bishop Watterson couldn't quite get it done against Bishop Hartley in their previous matchup back in April as they fell 13-8. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
