The Kearns Cougars will head out on the road to challenge the Taylorsville Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Kearns will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
Kearns posted their biggest victory yet this season on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Granger 59-29 at home. The score was close at the half, but Kearns pulled away in the second half with 36 points.
Iman Finau continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Adhau Chol, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Taylorsville was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 49-43 to Hunter. Taylorsville has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Jenna Sterzer, who scored six points along with ten rebounds and five steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Aysha Salami was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with six rebounds and two steals.
The win got Kearns back to even at 7-7. As for Taylorsville, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-7 record this season.
Tuesday's matchup is shaping up to be a scrappy matchup: Kearns have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 34 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Taylorsville, though, as they've been averaging only 36.8 rebounds per game. Given Kearns' sizeable advantage in that area, Taylorsville will need to find a way to close that gap.
Kearns came up short against Taylorsville in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, falling 55-49. Can Kearns avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
