Portage saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hayden Orosz, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last contest, Lake Central made sure to put some runs up on the board against Chesterton on Tuesday. The Indians blew past the Trojans 12-1. The Indians might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 games by six runs or more this season.
Maddie Such looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted over her last eight matches.
On the hitting side, Kate Renschen was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Schafer, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Lake Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Chesterton only managed three hits.
Lake Central's record is now 20-3. As for Portage, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-11.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Portage hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .397. However, it's not like Lake Central struggles in that department as they've averaged .393. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Portage might still be hurting after the 17-1 loss they got from Lake Central in their previous meeting back in April. Can Portage avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
