Baseball Recap: Marion Local Wins Going Away Against Minster

Minster typically has all the answers at home, but on Saturday Marion Local proved too difficult a challenge. They put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 15-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Flyers, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.

Ian Rindler made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with four runs.

In other batting news, Hayden Poeppelman was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Ethan Heitkamp, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.

Marion Local was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .483. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matches.

Marion Local's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-6. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Minster, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 16-6 record this season.

Marion Local will challenge Shawnee at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Minster, they will face off against Memorial at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Wildcats are facing the Roughriders at the right time seeing as the Roughriders are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
