After three games on the road, Highland Tech is heading back home. Having just played yesterday, they will get right back to it and host the Sugar Creek Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on January 24th. Hopefully Highland Tech is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Sugar Creek in North Carolina (Highland Tech is ranked 279th, while Sugar Creek is ranked 603rd).
On Tuesday, Highland Tech came up short against Thomas Jefferson and fell 43-30.
Highland Tech's loss came about despite a quality game from Addie McCraw, who scored 15 points. McCraw's trending in the right direction, as she's improved his point production for three games straight.
Meanwhile, Sugar Creek's game on Wednesday was all tied up 12-12 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They took down Valor Preparatory Academy 36-22. The win made it back-to-back wins for Sugar Creek.
Sugar Creek got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Infiniti Green out in front who dropped a double-double on 11 rebounds and ten steals. Green is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last 12 games she's played. Eriyana Anthony was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six steals.
Highland Tech's defeat dropped their record down to 11-5. As for Sugar Creek, their win bumped their record up to 2-11.
Wednesday's matchup is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Highland Tech have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 45.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Sugar Creek struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27.2 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for Highland Tech against Sugar Creek in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 as the team secured a 50-18 victory. Will Highland Tech repeat their success, or does Sugar Creek have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
