The Holmes Huskies will head out to square off against the O'Connor Panthers at 12:00 p.m. on Monday. Holmes has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with 14 straight defeats, while O'Connor will come in with four straight victories.
Holmes' last matchup with Brennan could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's game on Friday. The Huskies lost 18-5 to the Bears. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Huskies have suffered against the Bears since March 15, 2023.
Ari-Anna Orozco was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one double. That double was her first of the season. Lauren Gonzalez was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.
Meanwhile, O'Connor won against Brennan last Friday with eight runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. Everything went the Panthers' way against Marshall as they made off with an 8-1 win. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by six runs or more this season.
O'Connor let Ella De Luna and Charlotte Briscoe run wild. De Luna went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run, while Briscoe went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most runs Briscoe has posted over her last 11 matchups. The team also got some help courtesy of Zoe Rice, who went 1-for-2 with two runs.
O'Connor hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in 25 consecutive games dating back to last season.
O'Connor's record now sits at 12-4. As for Holmes, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-14.
Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Holmes has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .443. However, it's not like O'Connor struggles in that department as they've averaged .440. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Holmes came up short against O'Connor in their previous matchup back in April of 2025, falling 5-2. Can the Huskies avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
