Arizona Lutheran Academy (Phoenix, Ariz.) grabbed the lead when
Alfred Erives ran for a touchdown with 6:00 to go in the fourth quarter and held on to upset
Tempe Prep (Tempe, Ariz.) 28-18 on Saturday. The score was the final lead change in a back-and-forth contest that featured five lead swaps.
The Knights pulled ahead on a touchdown run by
Anthony Brittain, and subsequently went into halftime leading 12-7. The Coyotes scored the winning points with a touchdown run by Erives that came in the fourth quarter.
Despite scoring seven points in the third, Arizona Lutheran Academy still trailed by 4 points going into the fourth quarter. But 14 points in the fourth helped ALA pull out the victory.
Tempe Prep's
Levi Hartzler was the standout player for his team. The senior ran for one touchdown. His performance brought his touchdown total to three on the year.
The Phoenix school's standout player in the win was Erives. The senior running back ran for one touchdown and caught two touchdowns. He has now scored 14 touchdowns on the season.
Last season's game between the teams resulted in a 16-14 win for the Coyotes. The matchup between these two teams has been a relatively even one, as Arizona Lutheran Academy has come out ahead in two of the past four games they've faced each other.
The loss comes after Tempe Prep defeated Seton Catholic 24-21 last week. The loss snapped TP's 3-game winning streak. With the win ALA extended its winning streak to three games.
In a non-conference game next week Arizona Lutheran Academy (3-1) takes on Benson, and Tempe Prep (3-1) will go up against Scottsdale Christian Academy in a V Section II game.
