The Spencerville Adventist Academy Hornets suffered their biggest loss since December 4, 2023 on Thursday. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 65-45 walloping at the hands of Newman International Academy. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Spencerville Adventist Academy came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 243rd in Maryland, while Newman International Academy is ranked 655th in Texas).
Several Hornets players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Vincent Toscano, who scored 11 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Toscano has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Nathan Thomas, who scored nine points.
Gavin Ridder was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 24 points and 13 rebounds for Newman International Academy. The team also got some help courtesy of Deontae Casey, who scored ten points along with five steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Spencerville Adventist Academy and nudges their season record down to 3-8. As for Newman International Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season.
Spencerville Adventist Academy and San Gabriel Academy will face off at 3:10 p.m. on January 25th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. San Gabriel Academy is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for Newman International Academy, Newman International Academy and Chisholm Trail Academy will face off at 3:10 p.m. on January 25th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Chisholm Trail Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Thursday.
