The Roncalli Royals's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They took a 57-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of Franklin Central. That's two games in a row now that Roncalli has lost by exactly five points.
Roncalli lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Elliot Leffler, who scored 16 points. Another player making a difference was Taylor Turk, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds.
Leading Franklin Central to victory were Carys Wilson and Payton Duvall. Wilson scored 15 points along with eight rebounds, while Duvall dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds. The match was Wilson's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashlee Baker, who scored eight points along with five rebounds.
Roncalli's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-7. As for Franklin Central, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 8-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Roncalli will challenge Guerin Catholic at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Guerin Catholic will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings (they are ranked 230th, while Roncalli is ranked 56th). Franklin Central's road trip will continue as they head out to face Avon at 7:30 p.m. on January 12th. Avon and Franklin Central are at an even 3-3 over their past six head-to-heads.
