Softball Recap: Carson Beats Banning for Their Third Straight Victory

Carson extended their winning streak to three on Wednesday, bumping their season record up to 15-1-1 in the process. They put the hurt on the Banning Pilots with a sharp 11-3 victory. The Colts might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 contests by six runs or more this season.

Giselle Pantoja spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Carson got a massive performance out of Atiana Rodriguez, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most hits Rodriguez has posted since back in March. Ruby Grajeda was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Carson hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Banning struck out six times.

As for Banning, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games.

On Banning's side, Sharon Su'e and Kourtney Talanoa stepped up to the plate in a big way. Su'e went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one triple, while Talanoa went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one double.

Carson will look to defend their home field on Monday against Rancho Dominguez at 3:15 p.m. The Lobos have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.63 runs per game on average), something the Colts will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Banning, they will take on South in a tournament on Friday.
