The New Haven Bulldogs will head out on the road to face off against the Columbia City Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: New Haven has struggled recently with five defeats in a row, while Columbia City will arrive with four straight wins.
Last Saturday, New Haven was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 50-49 to Norwell. New Haven has not had much luck with Norwell recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
New Haven's defeat came about despite a quality game from James Hardy, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds. Hardy also posted two blocks for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeremiah Cottrell, who scored ten points.
Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Columbia City beat DeKalb 35-31 on Saturday. Given Columbia City's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 82nd, while DeKalb is ranked 240th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
New Haven's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-13. As for Columbia City, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season.
New Haven came up short against Columbia City in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, falling 64-53. Can New Haven avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
