The Checotah Wildcats gave up the first points on Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They took down Stigler 28-13. For Checotah, this counts as revenge for the 63-34 defeat Stigler walked away with the last time they faced one another back in November of 2022.
Checotah's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Elijah Thomas, who picked up 159 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Thomas' longest reception was for an incredible 80 yards. Kaden Mitchell and his 131 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Checotah's victory.
Checotah's win was their fourth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which pushed their record up to 7-3. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 3-7 Locust Grove and 3-7 Seminole (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 36.4% over those games). As for Stigler, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Checotah will square off against Holland Hall at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Holland Hall will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak. As for Stigler, they will head out on the road to face off against Cascia Hall at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Cascia Hall is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.
