Basketball Recap: Harding University's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Harding University had lost five straight headed into Friday's contest, but Kaharri Coleman didn't let it get to six. The Harding University Rams enjoyed a cozy 65-49 victory over the West Mecklenburg Hawks on Friday thanks in part to Coleman, who went 10 of 21 on his way to 29 points along with seven boards and seven steals. He is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games he's played.

The team also got some help courtesy of Lonnie Walker, who posted 12 points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in steals.

Harding University's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 5-12. As for West Mecklenburg, they dropped their record down to 0-15 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road.

Harding University and West Mecklenburg could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. Harding University will take on Hopewell at 7:30 p.m. on January 24th down 257 places (315 vs. 58). Similarly, West Mecklenburg (ranked 576th) will meet Rocky River (ranked 231st) at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
