The Clymer Central Pirates waltzed into their contest on Thursday with two straight wins but they left with three. They escaped with a win against Panama by the margin of a single free throw, 51-50. Given Clymer Central's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 185th, while the Panthers are ranked 457th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Alexys Neckers was her usual excellent self, scoring 40 points along with eight rebounds and six steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Ava Nyweide, who scored seven points.
Clymer Central is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-2 record this season. As for Panama, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-9.
Clymer Central will be playing in front of their home fans against the Red Dragons at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Maple Grove and the Pirates are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads. As for Panama, they will head out on the road to challenge the Black Knights at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Silver Creek is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
