Jonesboro and Marion pushed the score to 51-30 the last time they played Marion, but on Friday defenses reigned supreme. The Hurricane took down the Patriots 21-6. The 21-point effort marked the Hurricane's lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Jonesboro's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but K'Den Hawkins led the charge by rushing for 128 yards and one score on only ten carries. Hawkins' longest rush was for an impressive 60 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Jonesboro also got a significant boost from Tj Brown, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 137 yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Jonesboro was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 280 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 154 rushing yards in three consecutive games.

Another reason for the win was Jonesboro's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece. They got some further help from Noah Wendel: he picked up a sack and made 11 total tackles.

Jonesboro has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-3 record this season. As for Marion, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-3.
