The Everglades Gators will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against the Coconut Creek Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on January 18th. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Everglades suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Friday. They took a serious blow against Northeast, falling 61-20.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 70 points the game before, Coconut Creek were a bit more limited in their matchup on Tuesday. They had to suffer through a rough 66-16 loss at the hands of McArthur. While losing is never fun, Coconut Creek can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 375th, while McArthur is ranked 147th).
Coconut Creek's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Devonique Thompson, who scored six points, and Tessan Parchment who scored seven points along with six rebounds and six steals. Parchment has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played.
Everglades bumped their record down to 2-7 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 20.8 points per game. As for Coconut Creek, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-7.
Everglades was dealt a bruising 45-6 loss at the hands of Coconut Creek in their previous meeting back in November of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Coconut Creek's Abigail Theophile, who scored 24 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Now that Everglades knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
