Division IV recap October 1, 2013
Exeter-West Greenwich scored a shocking upset when it eliminated North Smithfield, 17-14. At the time, the Northmen were ranked 22nd in the state, while the Scarlet Knights were 34th.
Fans got a thrill when Dylan Narodowy and Nicholas Cicerone connected against Exeter-West Greenwich. The longest such play in Division IV this season, the connection resulted in 65 yards.
Malik Velasquez threw for 168 yards and 4 touchdowns. He was 11-20 with 1 interception.
Luis Gracia was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 120 yards on 6 carries as Central Falls lost to Jim Alves' team. Jason Araujo also contributed to the rushing game with 74 yards on the ground.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Warriors' Velasquez and Marcelino DaVega have proven to be a lethal combination. Velasquez has thrown for 487 yards this season, while DaVega has 12 catches for 300 yards. Saul Mustaffa from Providence Country Day/Wheeler/Sanchez Complex leads the league in rushing with 264 yards.
The top two teams in Division IV will face off this week when first place Scituate takes on second place Exeter-West Greenwich.
North Providence was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after topping Hope. The Cougars came in at 25 in the state poll after placing at number 28 last week.
