Peebles hasn't had much luck against Lynchburg-Clay recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Indians are taking a road trip to challenge the Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Peebles took a 11-run loss the last time they faced off against North Adams, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Indians sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 victory over the Green Devils on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Indians have posted since May 9, 2024.
Nathanel Cummings spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Daniel Clark was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lynchburg-Clay). They never let West Union get on the board and left with a 23-0 victory on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won seven matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.
Christian Flowers made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Flowers was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and five RBI.
In other batting news, Lynchburg-Clay let Kristian Beachy and Trevor Niehaus run wild. Beachy went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run, while Niehaus went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Tanner Roberts was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.
Lynchburg-Clay was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .556. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.
Peebles' record now sits at 3-5. As for Lynchburg-Clay, their record is now 8-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Peebles has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Lynchburg-Clay struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Peebles might still be hurting after the 8-1 defeat they got from Lynchburg-Clay in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Indians avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
