Tillamook is 0-10 against Astoria since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Tillamook Cheesemakers will head out on the road to face off against the Astoria Fishermen at 7:00 p.m. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Tillamook has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Astoria will arrive with nine straight victories.
Last Saturday, things could have been worse for Tillamook, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 67-53 loss to St. Helens. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Tillamook in their matchups with St. Helens: they've now lost four in a row.
Despite the loss, Tillamook saw an underclassman step up: Aubrey Hilton scored 23 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hilton has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Vivian Vogel, who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, Astoria stacked a seventh blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Scappoose 61-19 on the road. Given Astoria's advantage in MaxPreps' Oregon basketball rankings (they are ranked 12th, while Scappoose is ranked 99th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Tillamook has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-7 record this season. As for Astoria, they pushed their record up to 10-4 with that win, which was their ninth straight on the road.
Tillamook took a serious blow against Astoria in their previous matchup on January 9th, falling 67-28. Can Tillamook avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
