If the St. Johns Country Day Spartans were feeling good off their 81-48 takedown of the West Nassau Warriors on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. St. Johns Country Day took a 69-61 hit to the loss column at the hands of Stanton on Thursday. It was the first time this season that St. Johns Country Day let down their fans at home.
St. Johns Country Day's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dylan Reach, who dropped a double-double on 10 points and 11 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Camden Cooper, who scored 15 points along with 4 steals.
Even though they lost, St. Johns Country Day were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Stanton only pulled down 11.
Raza Cottey was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 15 rebounds for Stanton. Cottey is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Filip Jakovljevic, who scored 12 points along with 5 rebounds and 3 steals.
St. Johns Country Day's loss was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 5-2. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 29.67 points. As for Stanton, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Johns Country Day will take on First Coast Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Stanton, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Beachside at 3:00 p.m. Beachside knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matchups -- so hopefully Stanton likes a good challenge.
