Carmel has gone a perfect 5-0 against Monte Vista Christian recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Padres will head out on the road to take on the Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. Carmel is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.6 runs per game this season.
Carmel is headed into the match having just posted their closest victory since March 20th on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 win over Santa Teresa. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Padres.
Ava Mangiapane spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on 12 hits.
At the plate, Chloe LeMaster was excellent, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Lily Beals, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Carmel hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least three batters in six consecutive contests.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Mustangs on Tuesday. Monte Vista Christian came up short against King City, falling 20-5. The defeat continues a trend for Monte Vista Christian in their meetings with King City: they've now lost six in a row.
Addie Boles made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.
Carmel's victory bumped their record up to 11-4. As for Monte Vista Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 8-10.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Carmel has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .460. However, it's not like Monte Vista Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .475. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Carmel came out on top in a nail-biter against Monte Vista Christian when the teams last played back in March, sneaking past 7-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Padres since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
