Softball Recap: Damonte Ranch Finds Playoff Glory Versus Galena

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Damonte Ranch had no problem doing just that on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 win over the Galena Grizzlies. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Madeline Wackowski was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Olivia Mares was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Damonte Ranch kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are 7-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Damonte Ranch is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-16 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Galena, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 12 of their last 14 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-23-1 record this season.

Damonte Ranch will challenge Bishop Manogue at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Mustangs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Miners have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season. Galena does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
