The Otay Ranch Mustangs will take on the Christian Patriots at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Otay Ranch sitting on four straight wins and Christian on five.
Otay Ranch picked up another tournament win on Tuesday. They walked away with a 6-3 victory over San Marcos.
Kaylin Phillips made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. What's more, she gave up only zero walks, the fewest she's had since back in May of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one double.
In other pitching news, Victoria Resendez looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Ariele Torres, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Itzel Soto, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Otay Ranch hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in ten consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, Christian won against Eastlake on Thursday with seven runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. Christian came out on top against Rancho Buena Vista by a score of 7-3.
Alyssa McCurty spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits.
On the hitting side, Christian got a massive performance out of Kaitlyn Moody, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Lucy Sherburne was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Christian pushed their record up to 12-3-1 with the win, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.4 runs over those games. As for Otay Ranch, their win bumped their record up to 5-2-1.
