Elko has gone a perfect 10-0 against Sparks recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Indians will head out to take on the Railroaders at 1:00 p.m. Elko is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
Elko is headed into Saturday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Thursday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of Fernley. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Elko saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Vanessa Romero, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one double. Abrianna Lesbo was another, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Sparks' good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They came up short against Truckee, falling 19-9.
Liliana Pimentel Espana made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Ellise Henderson, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Elko's loss dropped their record down to 15-15. As for Sparks, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-11.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Elko hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .324. However, it's not like Sparks struggles in that department as they've averaged .414. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Elko took their win against Sparks when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 24-0 score. Will the Indians repeat their success, or do the Railroaders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
