It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Holmes County had no problem doing just that on Wednesday. They snuck past the Tigers with a 42-37 win.
Holmes County got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Karson McGowan out in front who scored nine points along with three steals. McGowan is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Emma Whitaker, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and two steals.
In what's become a running theme this season, Ponce De Leon gave their fans yet another huge victory on Wednesday. They blew past Bethlehem 59-22 on the road. Given Ponce De Leon's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 57th, while Bethlehem is ranked 370th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Holmes County has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season. As for Ponce De Leon, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 19-2.
Holmes County came up short against Ponce De Leon in their previous meeting back in January, falling 77-73. Can Holmes County avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
