The John Battle Trojans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fifth straight loss. They fell 52-44 to Marion. John Battle has not had much luck with Marion recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.
John Battle lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Katie Barrett, who scored 11 points. Those 11 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Ava Wallace, who scored seven points.
John Battle bumped their record down to 2-6 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 28.7 points per game. As for Marion, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-2.
John Battle will head out on the road to face off against Gate City at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Gate City comes in still looking for their first win of the season. Marion won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Fort Chiswell at 3:15 p.m. on December 29, 2023. Fort Chiswell knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four games -- so hopefully Marion likes a good challenge.
