Basketball Recap: Wayne Snaps Five-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

Wayne lost against Fairmont back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Wayne Warriors took a 50-31 bruising from the Fairmont Firebirds. The game marked the Warriors' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

When it comes to explaining why Wayne lost, don't look at Imani Frazier. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 boards. What's more, Frazier also racked up two blocks, the most she's had since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Nariya Goddard, who posted four points and five rebounds.

Fairmont's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kaylah Thornton, who went 6 of 14 en route to 14 points in addition to five boards and five steals. Thornton has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Janiyah Hargrave, who went 6 for 10 on her way to 13 points and seven rebounds.

Wayne's defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-6. As for Fairmont, the win keeps them at an undefeated 12-0.

Wayne has already played their next contest, a 52-43 loss against St. Vincent-St. Mary on the 18th. Fairmont has also already played their next matchup (against Portsmouth), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
