Saige Steele was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, three doubles, and four RBI. Those three doubles gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Broadbent, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Fremont kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. They are 6-3 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Layton posted their closest victory since May 7, 2024 on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 13-11 win over Ogden.
Lexie Himle made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Himle was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-5 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Megan Child was a standout: she got on base in five of her six plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Olivia Woodall was another key player, going 2-for-5 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Layton's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-13. As for Fremont, their win bumped their record up to 6-11.
Layton's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Fremont has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.6 hits per game. It's a different story for Layton, though, as they've been averaging 11.2 hits. Given Fremont's sizable advantage in that area, the Lancers will need to find a way to close that gap.
Fremont beat Layton 6-1 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Do the Silverwolves have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lancers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
