The Fort White Indians will be playing at home against the Dixie County Bears at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, Fort White got themselves on the board against Lafayette, but Lafayette never followed suit. They blew past the Hornets, posting a 35-0 victory on the road. The high flying offensive effort was a huge turnaround for Fort White's seven-point performance the matchup before.
Fort White's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dakota Fisher, who rushed for 129 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.2 yards per carry. Fisher was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 55 yards. Jayden Jackson was another key contributor, throwing for 125 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Dixie County had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 36.5 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They pulled ahead with a 19-18 photo finish over Chiefland.
Fort White's win was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 5-1. To be fair, it's not like the team was facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-7 Jefferson County and 1-4 Taylor County (Fort White's opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 34.2% over those games). Dixie County's victory was also their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to an identical 5-1.
Keep an eye on the end zone in Friday's game as the pair haven't had much trouble getting there this season. Fort White commands a daunting offense this season, having averaged 4.3 touchdowns per game. However, it's not like Dixie County struggles in that department as they've been even better at 4.5 per game. With these two high-octane teams facing off on Friday, fans should be in for an exciting offensive matchup.
Fort White was able to grind out a solid win over Dixie County in their previous meeting back in October of 2022, winning 21-13. Will Fort White repeat their success, or does Dixie County have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
