The Brunswick Pirates won the last time they faced the Glynn Academy Terrors, and things went their way on Friday too. Brunswick walked away with a 65-53 win over Glynn Academy. Given Brunswick's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 71st, while Glynn Academy is ranked 273rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Brunswick's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jakai Alston led the charge by dropping a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Shanyece Quick, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 20 rebounds.
Several Terrors players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Janiyah Spaulding, who scored 9 points along with 6 rebounds and 5 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyra Page, who scored 11 points along with 6 steals.
The victory makes it two in a row for Brunswick and bumps their season record up to 4-1. As for Glynn Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Brunswick will take on Lowndes at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lowndes knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three games -- so hopefully Brunswick likes a good challenge. As for Glynn Academy, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Richmond Hill at 6:00 p.m.
