Brandon Hall and Justin McDiarmid provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Coosa Valley Academy. The longest such play in AISA AA Region 1 this season, the connection resulted in 83 yards.
Edgewood Academy extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating East Memorial Christian Academy, 63-28. The victory was the ninth in a row for the Wildcats.
Springwood's dynamic duo of Hall and McDiarmid proved tough for the Rebels to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Hall threw for 125 yards and one touchdown and McDiarmid had 125 yards receiving.
David Whitlow provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Evangel Christian Academy lost to Crenshaw Christian Academy. He completed 10 passes for 167 yards and also ran for 10 yards. Whitlow's favorite target this week was James Thomas, who caught two passes for 90 yards.
Gavin McKenzie was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 110 yards on seven carries as the Cougars fell to Coosa Valley Academy. Teammate Chris Wooten added to the ground attack by rushing for 72 yards.
The Lions' Whitlow and Jay Grice have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading AISA AA Region 1 in both passing and receiving yards. Whitlow has thrown for 976 yards this season, while Grice, a 6-foot-4 receiver, has 15 catches for 366 yards. Connor Gillespie from Springwood leads the league in rushing with 686 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Ronnie Sikes' team takes on Crenshaw Christian Academy. The Wildcats are currently in sixth, while Roland Jones' team is in third.
Ryan Harper's team moved up to 323 from 362 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Rebels climbed the ranks as a result of topping Springwood 38-10.
