After soaring high against Chilhowee/Leeton last Friday, Icarus fell to the ground on Friday. DeKalb took a 40-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of Southwest/Hale/Tina-Avalon. If DeKalb were hoping to take revenge for the 6-58 defeat against Southwest/Hale/Tina-Avalon the last time the teams met, then they were left disappointed.
The loss shouldn't obscure the performances of junior Tyler Matson, who rushed for 170 yards and 3 touchdowns, and senior Coyote Henderson, who rushed for 193 yards and 2 touchdowns. In fact, with 16 tackles Matson was a force on both sides of the ball. Additional support came from defensive powerhouse senior Jared McElfresh, who racked up 14 tackles.
The loss dropped DeKalb's record to 1-2. The victory bumped Southwest/Hale/Tina-Avalon's record up to 3-0.
Next week DeKalb take on East Atchison at 7:00 PM. East Atchison also lit up the scoreboard in their last contest, so this could be a high-scoring contest. As for Southwest/Hale/Tina-Avalon, they will face off against Mound City/Craig. Mound City/Craig will need to watch out since Southwest/Hale/Tina-Avalon have now posted big point totals in their last 3 contests.
