The Decatur Community Red Devils had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Rawlins County 35-32. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Decatur Community also won the last time the pair played back in January.
Decatur Community's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Makadyn Ketterl, who scored 11 points. Brylee Minnick was another key contributor, scoring 9 points along with 8 rebounds and 3 steals.
When it comes to explaining why Rawlins County lost on Friday, one person who can't be blamed is Tayten Dewey. Despite the final result, she scored 12 points along with 5 rebounds and 4 steals. Another player making a difference was Kayte Shively, who scored 9 points.
Even though they lost, Rawlins County were working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Decatur Community only posted four.
Decatur Community's win bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Rawlins County, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.
Decatur Community will take on Wauneta-Palisade at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Rawlins County, they will take on Central Christian Academy at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
