The Petersburg Vikings are taking a road trip to square off against the Doddridge County Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are still undefeated (Petersburg has five wins , while Doddridge County has four).
If Petersburg beats Doddridge County with 28 points on Friday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. The Vikings were the clear victors by a 28-6 margin over Moorefield on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won three games by 22 points or more so far this season.

Petersburg's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Payton Metheny, who rushed for 57 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries, and also threw for 197 yards and one TD. A healthy portion of that aerial production (170 yards to be exact) went to Kaleb Kuhn, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.
Meanwhile, while Doddridge County put up plenty of points last Friday, the same can't be said for Ravenswood. The Bulldogs simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Red Devils 47-0. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia football rankings (they are ranked 33rd, while the Red Devils are ranked 98th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Doddridge County found their leader in sophomore Lyric Blake, who rushed for 234 yards and a pair of scores on only ten carries, and also caught one touchdown. Those 234 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Blake. Brandon Davis was another key rusher, gaining 124 total yards and two touchdowns.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Doddridge County was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 335 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 214 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
One reason for the win was Doddridge County's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Calob James, Ty Mccloud, and Jacob Britton, who each picked up one sack apiece. Joshua Dehaven got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Petersburg's record now sits at 5-0. As for Doddridge County, their record is now 4-0.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Petersburg has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 171 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Doddridge County struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 288.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Petersburg took a serious blow against Doddridge County in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, falling 40-6. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Vikings were down 27-0.
