Hardee is a perfect 10-0 against DeSoto County since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field one another at 7:00 p.m. The last three games Hardee has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Having struggled with seven defeats in a row dating back to last season, Hardee turned things around against Frostproof last Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 1-0 win over the Bulldogs. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wildcats have posted since April 9, 2024.
Not much got past Alexis Villegas, who gave up just four hits to keep Frostproof off the board.
At the plate, Hardee saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mikayla Silva, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Hardee hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in five consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, DeSoto County didn't have quite enough to beat Mulberry two weeks ago and fell 5-4.
Mya Goodnoe was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She tossed 6.1 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Goodnoe was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Emery Skinner was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. She is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last three games she's played.
Hardee's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-6. As for DeSoto County, their loss dropped their record down to 3-3.
Everything went Hardee's way against DeSoto County when the teams last played back in March of 2024, as Hardee made off with a 15-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hardee since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
