Maywood/Hayes Center found their leader in sophomore Caylie Softley, who went 10 of 14 on her way to 22 points along with seven steals and five assists. The match was Softley's third in a row with at least ten points. Karissa Stengel was another key player, dropping a double-double on ten points and ten assists.
Maywood/Hayes Center smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 25 consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, Paxton narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Dundy County-Stratton 54-51. The win made it back-to-back victories for Paxton.
Paxton's win came from a few key players Maywood/Hayes Center will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Ella Fote, who posted 14 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals. She has been hot recently, having posted eight or more boards the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaleigh Hansen, who scored 18 points and three steals.
Maywood/Hayes Center pushed their record up to 16-2 with the win, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 32.5 points. As for Paxton, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Maywood/Hayes Center has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 29.3 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Paxton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29.6 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
