Arcadia is 10-0 against Chincoteague since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Arcadia Firebirds' road trip will continue as they head out to face the Chincoteague Ponies at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd. One thing working in Arcadia's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last seven games.
Arcadia pushed their score all the way to 58 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 73-58 bruising from Snow Hill. While losing is never fun, Arcadia can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 155th in Virginia, while Snow Hill is ranked 47th in Maryland).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Zachary Giddins, who scored 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryheim Pettit, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Chincoteague pushed their score all the way to 70 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 82-70 hit to the loss column at the hands of Northampton. Chincoteague has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Jake Harper, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and ten rebounds. Harper is absolutely dominating the point category: he's posted at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Jordan Harper, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Arcadia's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-5. Chincoteague's record now sits at 5-5.
Everything went Arcadia's way against Chincoteague when the teams last played back in February of 2023 as Arcadia made off with a 62-39 victory. Does Arcadia have another victory up their sleeve, or will Chincoteague turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
