The Emerald Vikings lost against the Clinton Red Devils back in October of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Emerald was outmatched by Clinton at home and fell 51-13. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Emerald in their matchups with Clinton: they've now lost five in a row.
Leading Clinton to victory were Tushawan Richardson and Kadon Crawford. Richardson threw for 157 yards and three touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes, while Crawford gained 147 total yards and four touchdowns.
Emerald's loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 1-9. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 10-0 Belton-Honea Path and 8-2 Ninety Six (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 72% over those games). As for Clinton, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-2.
Emerald will head out on the road to face off against Belton-Honea Path at 7:30 p.m. on November 4th. Belton-Honea Path knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past ten matches -- so hopefully Emerald likes a good challenge. As for Clinton, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Palmetto at 7:30 p.m. Palmetto will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 146th, while Clinton is ranked 41st).
