Mead is 1-9 against Holy Family since February of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Mead Mavericks will square off against the Holy Family Tigers at 5:30 p.m. Mead is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.2 points per game this season.
Mead is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Colorado's top teams: Broomfield, who was ranked fourth at the time (Mead was ranked 14th). Mead was beaten by Broomfield 65-38 on Tuesday.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Darby Haley, who posted nine points and three steals. Madi Clark was another key player, putting up 11 points and six boards.
Even though they lost, Mead smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Holy Family). They really took it to Legacy for the full four quarters, racking up a 70-30 win. The Tigers pushed the score to 54-25 by the end of the third, a deficit the Lightning had little chance of recovering from.
Holy Family's win came from a few key players Mead will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Alexcia Oaxaca, who went 6-for-10 to rack up 16 points along with seven rebounds and six steals. Those six steals gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Gracie Ward, who went 8-for-13 en route to 18 points.
Holy Family has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 31.5 points. Mead's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 11-1 and their overall record down to 19-3.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Mead has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 29.2 boards per game. However, it's not like Holy Family struggles in that department as they've been averaging 28.2 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Mead lost to Holy Family at home by a decisive 62-46 margin when the teams last played back in February of 2024. Will Mead have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more basketball content.
