Basketball Recap: Ethan Flores' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Hesperia Christian over Bethel Christian

Hesperia Christian lost against Bethel Christian back in December of 2021 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Hesperia Christian Patriots fell 73-63 to the Bethel Christian Kings. The Patriots have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Hesperia Christian's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ethan Flores, who went 6 of 15 en route to 14 points and six rebounds. What's more, Flores also racked up four assists, the most he's had since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Noah Griffin, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten boards.

Even though they lost, Hesperia Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in five consecutive games.

Bethel Christian got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Joseph Kyababchian out in front who went 11 for 16 on his way to 25 points along with five assists and four steals. Kyababchian's afternoon made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alakai Farley, who went 8 of 16 en route to 20 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals.

Hesperia Christian's loss dropped their record down to 4-10. As for Bethel Christian, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-5.

Hesperia Christian didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 45-41 victory against Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy on the 14th. Bethel Christian has also already played their next contest, a 63-33 win against The Grove School on the 14th.
