The Fairfield Central Griffins will head out on the road to face off against the Newberry Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, Fairfield Central got themselves on the board against Eau Claire, but Eau Claire never followed suit. They blew past the Shamrocks, posting a 60-0 win on the road. Given Fairfield Central's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 74th, while Eau Claire is ranked 227th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Fairfield Central got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Cameron Mcmillon out in front who threw for 72 yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. TyDarion Grier was in the mix as well, providing Fairfield Central with two touchdowns.
Newberry never got on the board in their matchup two weeks ago, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Columbia last Friday. They breezed by the Capitals on the road to the tune of 47-8.
Fairfield Central has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. As for Newberry, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Everything came up roses for Fairfield Central against Newberry when the teams last played back in October of 2022 as the squad secured a 48-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Fairfield Central since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
